Weathered Beech,
3D Animation 


“Weathered Beech” explores the similarities between trees and humans, in particular the beech tree as it is the tree with the most sensitive bark, prone to usage by humans to carve in. Whether for territorial markings, messages or declarations of love, ‘arborglyphs’ are left on the trunk and the bark must adapt to protect itself from diseases that can be a danger to the tree. A small carving on the bark is essentially not harmful to the tree, but traces that are left will leave a lasting mark. 

The images on the tree is a product of documenting acts of love and the erotics from the everyday to immortalize the memory of them. All of the illustrations are collected from the a journal where some are made by  my friends who were asked to visualize their idea of love. 

The beech tree is associated with wisdom and knowledge, and in folklore tradition the tree represents letting go of fixed ideas, understanding and sustenance. “Weathered Beech” is an artwork about accepting change and finding strength in the face of adversity.
